I think it's also the dry humor that shoots right past my head.
For example, there are parts when there's a character with a frozen expression – it's pretty much a still painted frame, but I don't really get the feel of the scene. In these times, I find anime/motion capture more convincing as a form of animation, and I wonder what "Invincible" would be like with that kind of visualization. The animation is good – very old school though, but good. I think the creators were trying to appeal to a varied demographic but it's trying too hard and I just don't feel a core essence around it. The storyline is engaging, subtly mysterious at best but it had me confused – because the tone swings so much between a realistic, violent superhero story (like "The Boys" and "The Watchmen" movie) and a teenage Archie's comics tone. Simmons, Steven Yeun, Sandra Oh, Mahershala Ali, Zachary Quinto, Zazie Beats, Mark Hamill, Walton Goggins and dozens of other star cameos including Jon Hamm and Seth Rogen. "Invincible" boasts of a stellar voice cast – J.K. It had me awestruck with the first episode for sure – right at the end of it.
The series had me curious with the reviews, comments and ratings (#62 on the top rated Tv on IMDB) that surrounded it. Living in a world where super humans lie on both sides of the fence, and aliens are freely roaming Earth as powerful creatures, Mark wants to get up there and join his father in the good fight – or is it what it is? "Invincible" follows Mark Grayson, a teenaged son of a powerful superhero and his journey on discovering his own inherited super-powers, whilst he deals with the usual teenager's life. Robert Kirkman seems to have picked up a thing with getting Steven Yeun's on-screen head smacked in.
